On the 14th – 15th September 2433 (Thanet) Squadron attended the Open cockpit weekend at the former RAF Manston airfield.

Organised by the RAF Manston history museum, the cadets had a great couple of days and were raising money for vital training equipment. While they were there we went into a full size model of an Airspeed Horsa Glider.

This year is the 80th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, which included the battle of Arnhem in September 1944. The gliders were used to get troops and equipment over to France. On Friday we went to the museum to see to talk by a lady from the glider pilot regiment society. If you want to know more there is more on YouTube, if you look up Horsa Glider ww2. They also went on fire engine rides, the troop carrier and a German car called Greta! We saw a Spitfire flying around from the Heritage hangar at Biggin Hill. We were even on the BBC News South east, which was aired on Wednesday 18th September 2024
