On Saturday the 11th of September cadets from all over the country had the opportunity to attend the first RAF Air Cadets Muster at RAF Cosford since 2016.

This amazing opportunity did not go a miss as it saw cadets from all over the country flying in Chinook and Puma military helicopters, one of the countless activities that took place on the day.

The cadets also got to experience the RAF Cosford Museum visiting historical aircraft such as the Avro Vulcan B2 and a Lightning V1. One cadet said that “it was very interesting to see some of the history that surrounds the organisation and to be able to actually touch them”

STEM (Science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities were also set up including learning making rockets out of household materials, to be tested by the cadets on a firing station, learning the ins and outs of the RAF’s survival equipment and even getting hands on with the RAF engineers learning how to bolt aircraft fuselage panels on.

There was also an immersive tech and simulator hanger set up where cadets could try the Virtual Reality, 6-axis motion and tabletop flight simulators among other things. This gave the cadets a chance to feel what it is like to be inside aircraft and learn vital flight principles ready to be taken to the air.

Overall, the day was a huge success giving cadets once in a lifetime opportunities, not open to the general public, creating long lasting memories to be told for years to come. But don’t just take it from us, Corporal Stephanie Fordham from 25 Parkwood Squadron said, “I really can’t tell you how amazing flying in those helicopters was, probably one of the best things I ever did”.
