Walter Carter is a fictional character who describes authentic scenarios and factual information about the battlefields during WW1.

Walter tells his factual story for the duration of the First World War, in real time, day by day, 100 years from the day it happened.

Based on hstorical fact and contemporary accounts, He talks about his thoughts, ambitions and feelings, including some lighter moments.

He describes his relationships with family and comrades and how the war impacts on his life.

The project aims are to capture the imagination of 13-18 year olds, to provide teaching ideas and links to more detailed resources.

It also reflects the impact of the conflict on other countries and encourages people to think about the wider issues of today.
