Cadet Grace Savage of 213 (Rochester) Squadron won the Royal Air Force Air Cadets section of the Royal Air Force Photo Competition 2014 for her entry of ‘Cadet in a plane’.
She took the photograph whilst flying in a Grob Tutor aircraft on an Air Experience Flight at RAF Wyton. The RAF uses the Grob Tutor aircraft to provide the first stage of flying training to all of its trainee pilots.
Cadet Savage said:
“This photo was taken at RAF Wyton on my first ever trip up in an RAF plane. The pilot let me take the controls (another first!). It was one of the best experiences of my life and I took this ‘selfie’ as a record of this amazing day! The day I spent there has made me all the more determined to study hard at school so I am able to join the RAF when I am old enough.
I am 15 years and I joined 213 (City of Rochester) ATC nearly 2 years ago. I really enjoy being a cadet and am loving all of the experiences that being a cadet offers. I am studying for my GCSEs and am working hard to get good grades. I love taking photos and my usual favourite subject that I photograph is my dog Toffee”.
