RAF Air Cadets from Medway gave up their Saturday to raise money for the Royal Air Forces Association Wings Appeal.
The cadets from Chatham, Gillingham, Parkwood and Rochester aided the Association’s Medway Towns Branch on Saturday, 20 September, raising a total of £868.97 for the fundraising campaign.
Funds raised from the Wings Appeal allow the Association’s 540 volunteer welfare officers make over 82,000 welfare calls each year to provide help and support to members of the RAF family and distribute almost £1.8m in welfare grants wherever needed.
In Chatham High Street, 1404 (Chatham) Squadron raised £377.94; 1039 (Gillingham) Squadron raised £133.43 in Gillingham High Street; 25 (Parkwood) Squadron raised £215.17 in Rainham Shopping Precinct and 213 (City of Rochester) Squadron raised £142.43 in Rochester High Street.
The fundraising day follows the Kent Coastal Half Marathon on Sunday, 7 September, when three adult volunteers from the 25 (Parkwood) Squadron and 1039 (Gillingham) Squadron took part in aid of the Wings Appeal.
Flight Sergeant (ATC) Andrew Bairnsfather, the Medway Towns Branch Wings Appeal Organiser, said, “It is fantastic to see that, once again, RAF Air Cadets from across Medway have thrown their full support behind the Wings Appeal.
“The Association provides so much support for the RAF family and values all donations and fundraising income, however big or small, that allow it to continue to provide such support.
“On behalf of the Association, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday to help raise money for this important charity.”
